Message from the Mayor

Kigali is committed to becoming an AIDS free city in near future. We signed Paris declaration to end the epidemic, and the City of Kigali has made tremendous progress by exceeding the first and second UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets by 2020. We are working hard toward achieving all the targets as we did at the national level. We have availed free access to HIV services to everyone including HIV self-testing kits at private pharmacies. HIV/AIDS in the city of Kigali will be soon history. Let us work together to make history.

Community Leadership Messages

Today, we have around 5,000 peer educators across the country volunteering to support their fellow PLHIV for better adherence to treatment. Moreover, PLHIV also plays an important role in supporting the newly infected people and to decrease HIV incidence.

Sylvie Muneza
Chairperson
Rwanda Network of PLHIV (RRP+)

Long lasting life for people living with HIV is no longer a dream! We have our members who are now living with HIV for more than 30 years and they are very healthy with hope to live more years as any other HIV negative people. We have seen discordant couples that keep their status for almost more than 20 years. We have children born from parents who live with HIV and they are HIV free. We have seen our children born HIV positive, now graduate from Universities, got married and delivered free of HIV children! This is amazing! Let work together to end the HIV epidemic in the City of Kigali, it is possible, and we can prove it.

Sage Semafara
Executive Secretary
Rwanda Network of PLHIV (RRP+)

“The high rate of urbanisation comes with many challenges as well as opportunities in HIV response. Fast-tracking HIV prevention and treatment services in the City of Kigali can reach large numbers of people in cost effective ways.”

Betru Woldesemayat
UNAIDS Country Director

“Youths are the future of the country and therefore, they should engage in the agendas related to the fight against HIV/AIDS.”

Patrice Mukangarambe
Director
